Simula’s policy concerning spin-off companies is organic, in the sense that it is natural to set the company free if or when its business grows in a direction that falls outside the laboratory’s fields of interest and competence. The companies listed under represent companies where Simula has not continued its ownership.

In 2005, Project Economics AS was established as an independent company offering consulting, training courses, and research services concerning software project management and related areas. The methodology used by the company was, to a large extent, developed in the SE department at Simula. The company is led by Dr. Kjetil Moløkken-Østvold, who studied for his doctoral degree in this department. Simula sold its shares in 2008.

Silent Wings AS

In 2004, the company Silent Wings AS was established to develop, market, and sell software for flight simulation. The primary application is to simulate physically correct flights of soaring planes. The core technology was developed prior to establishment of Simula by personnel who worked at Simula until 2007. Certain components of the Silent Wings technology are in use in the educational software developed by World Beside AS. Simula sold its shares in 2008.
