Insilicomed, Inc. (ISM) is a small company based in La Jolla, California. ISM
delivers software and consultancy services for computational modelling of biomedical processes. The company was founded in 2000, as a commercial outlet for
Continuity software, a program developed by the research group of Professor Andrew McCulloch at the University of California, San Diego. Simula has had close contact with Professor McCulloch for several years, and in 2008, we entered a strategic partnership with ISM. The partnership involved SI making an investment for 10% of the shares in ISM. The motivation for Simula to enter this agreement was twofold. First, it was seen as a good opportunity for Kalkulo to expand into a new area, which would make the company less dependent on the projects running with StatoilHydro on oil and gas exploration. Second, it is seen as a promising route-to-market for technology and software from the cardiac modelling activity in the SC department, which is one of the largest projects at Simula.
