Several available Ph.D. and Postdoc positions - Scientific Computing

The Scientific Computing department are seeking candidates for several available Ph.D. (3 or 4 years) and Postdoc positions (2 years) within the Center of Excellence.

Simula Research Laboratory conducts basic research in the fields of communication technology, scientific computing and software engineering. The research in the Scientific Computing (SC) department is focused on numerical methods and software for solving partial differential equations. SC has a high standing internationally for pioneering work on computational software, which has been applied in many branches of natural science. In recent years, the main application area addressed by the department has been biomedical computing, in particular simulations of electrical and mechanical activity of the heart.

The positions will be part of the Norwegian Center of Excellence: Center for Biomedical Computing. The center will conduct a focused, international research project over a period of 10 years, which extends the current SC activity in the biomedical field. With the aim of producing high quality software for simulating fluid flow, tissue deformation and electrical activity in the human body, the center spans a wide range of research areas. We seek candidates for several available Ph.D. (3 or 4 years) and Postdoc positions (2 years) within the Center of Excellence.

For all the positions, Simula offers the following:

  • Excellent opportunities for doing high quality research, as part of a highly competent and motivated team of international researchers.
  • Generous support for travels and equipment
  • Good office facilities located close to the Oslo fjord
  • Competitive salary (around 47.000,- Euro/69.000,- USD for a Ph.D. position and 58.000,- Euro/84.500,- USD for a Postdoc position)

We are looking for individuals that possess one or more of the following requirements:

  • University degree in numerical mathematics, numerical software, computer science, physics, mechanics, bioengineering or medicine
  • Experience with software development for scientific applications
  • Background in mathematical modelling of multiphysics problems, computational fluid dynamics, computational biomedicine, inverse problems, numerical methods for partial differential equations or advanced programming techniques (in C++, Python, F95), parallel computation and programming

For the Postdoc positions, the following additional requirements apply:

  • PhD in one of the areas mentioned above
  • Relevant research experience
  • Strong record of publications in international journals

All positions require excellent English writing skills and high marks from the BSc and MSc degree. Women are encouraged to apply for these positions. For more information contact Professor Hans Petter Langtangen (hpl@simula.no).
