IEEE Fellow Lionel Briand

Professor Lionel Briand has received the grade IEEE Fellow for contributions to the testing of object-oriented software systems. The Grade of Fellow is the IEEE Institute's most prestigious honour, and we congratulate professor Briand on this outstanding achievement.

Every year the IEEE Board of Directors elevate a very small number of members to IEEE Fellow. The grade is awarded to a person that have contributed significantly to the advancement or application of engineering, science and technology, and contributed with knowledge that is of great importance to society. A nomination by an IEEE fellow is prerequisite for being considered for the distinction, and at least five other fellows capable of assessing the nominee's contributions serves as references.

Every year, at most one-tenth of a percent of all the voting members of IEEE can be elevated to fellow. Prior to professor Briand receiving the honour, only six other researchers in Norway have received the grade, and Briand is the first researcher affiliated with the University of Oslo to become an IEEE Fellow.

Professor Briand is very grateful for receiving the distinction, in particular because it is a recognition from peers in his own field, who really can understand and value the importance of his contributions.
