Halvard Moe  holds both a M.Sc (1992) and a PhD (2001) from the Department of Mathematics at the University of Oslo, Norway.

The title of the PhD thesis was "Effect of topography on flows, tides and vortices".

During the last half of the Nineties Moe worked on various fluid dynamics research projects at Department of Mathematics. In 1997

Moe started as a system administrator at Department of Mathematics becoming the IT manager of the Department in 1999.

In 2001 Moe started working as a system administrator at Simula with special responsibility of running Linux machines.

In 2008 Moe started working as a scientific programmer in Kalkulo.
