Short Bio
Jussi T. Koivumäki received his MSc in Biophysics from the Department of Physics, University of Oulu, Finland, in 2001. After working a couple of years in the ICT industry, he continued with graduate studies and finished his PhD in Biophysics in 2009, with thesis titled “Regulation of Excitation-Contraction Coupling in Cardiac Myocytes. Insights from Mathematical Modelling”.
Jussi's first post doc position was at the A.I. Virtanen Institute of Molecular Sciences, University of Eastern Finland, where the research focus was on the excitation-contraction coupling of ventricular and atrial myocytes in both healthy and diseased heart, with a special interest on the regulation and remodeling of intracellular calcium handling. He joined Simula in August 2011 to continue research on cellular level phenomena, while also extending knowledge and methods to tissue and whole-heart simulations.
