Marius Lysaker received both his M.S. degree (2001) and Ph.D. degree (2004) in Applied Mathematics at the University of Bergen. The topic for his Ph.D. was variational PDE techniques for image processing problems. Since 2004 Lysaker has worked as a Post. Doc. at Simula Research Laboratory. The focus of Lysaker's research is inverse problems, level set methods, image and signal processing techniques. During the last five years Lysaker has focused mainly on the specific problem of automatic identification of ischemic heart disease.

In 2005, Lysaker was selected as the norwegian candidate for the best nordic thesis in image processing and pattern recognition. This award is given each second year at the Scandinavian Conference on Image Analysis.

Lysaker was also one of the organizers of the 2nd International Conference on "Scale Space and Variational Methods in Computer Vision", in Voss, Norway, June 1 - June 5, 2009.
