Sande is employed at Institute for Experimental Medical Research, Ullevaal universityhospital, UiO. The main focus at the institute is heart failure research. He has been involved in both experimental and mathematical research and has participated in several projects regarding heart failure. He is also a member of Center for Heart Failure Research, which comprise basal research to clinical research.

He is now a visiting research scientist at Simula in cardiac computing, which is a subdepartment of Scientific computing. His main focus is the interaction between intracellular sodium concentration and calcium homeostasis in isolated cardiomyocytes from normal and failing hearts.

He use Matlab/Simulink and Diffpack as simulation and visualization tools.
