Stensby received his Master Degree in Computer Science at the University of Oslo in 1993. The title of his thesis was Wavelet decomposition of splines on non-uniform knot-sequences.
In 1994 he joined the Geometric Modelling group at SINTEF Applied Mathematics as a research scientist. There he worked on projects scattered data, splines and visualization.
From 1999 Stensby worked as a software developer at WeatherOne AS. There he was part of a team that built an automated weather graphics solution for the TV broadcast market. This system creates graphics based on real meteorological data, such as satellite images, and meteorological observations.
Stensby joined Simula in 2004 and have been working on visualization related projects here.
Stensby's main interest is design and implementation of software systems that deal with modelling and visualization of three dimensional geometry.
