Parallel computing and numerical algorithms serving geoscience applications
A running theme in Computational Geoscience is the performance of the research software we have. Parallel computing, either on the CPU or GPU, is accessible with laptops and thus becoming a pervasive question in scientific computing. Thus High Performance Computing (HPC) researchers in CG have a natural link to all other projects in our group. Our approach here is to use the algorithms developed in CG as test beds for answering HPC basic research questions whilst also being able to answer more challenging problems in geoscience with the additional performance gained.
